This foaling alarm is fitted to a halter and operates by sensing the position of your mare and sends a sms text message and a phone call to any telephone when the mare goes into the normal prone birthing position.
You may choose to send two messages/calls to two different numbers entered onto the sim card fitted to the Studmasta (purchased separately from you local service provider) if you wish, just flick a switch for one or two calls/texts.
If your mare is one of the few who rest in the prone position, you may flick another switch and the Studmasta Foal Alarm will only notify you if she rises up from the prone position within two and a half minutes. They normally rest for longer periods unless disturbed by the onset of labour and the birthing process
If you have an animal that is suspected to be prone to colic, you may flick another switch to alert you as soon as the animal gets into the prone position.
The message received on your mobile phone will read [Studmasta activated] and the number from the sim card fitted into the Studmasta Foal Alarm.
Sim cards are purchased separately from your local service provider and the number is entered into your receiving mobile phone or phones with a name to identify the Studmasta Foal Alarm.
Use the format A_A_A then the name for the first phone call/text and A_A then the name for the second phone call/text, when entering the numbers onto the Studmasta sim card, this ensures that the two numbers are stored into the sim contacts list in the first two positions.
It is recommended to purchase a new sim card from your service provider as this number will not be made public or used for other calls (your mare may be very bright but she is not able to receive outside calls) and the cost to maintain the sim card will be the minimum top up required to keep your sim card activated, usually about $20.00 per year, the individual cost of sending the text approximately $00.20 per activation set by your service provider and nil for the phone call provided you do not answer it.
It is a good idea to identify the Studmasta number with an easily identifiable ring tone on the receiving mobile phone to alert you to the incoming call from your Studmasta Foal Alarm.
